Everyone fusses over the 3rd and 5th but never the 4th

The 4th gen Prelude has that awesome dash

Because ugly.

I think it was too easily confused with an Accord coupe. It needs to be special. Wonder if we’ll ever get another one?

Prelude generations, ranked:
1. 5th Gen
2. 1st Gen
3. 3rd Gen
4. 4th Gen
5. 2nd Gen
You can disagree with me, as long as you are willing to acknowledge that you’re wrong. :)

eh.. I respectfully voice a slightly different opinion on the 4th gen dash

I doubt it. Cheapish coupes have gone the way of the dodo.

I don’t get the hate for it either, I like it. I’ll jump behind your fire shield if there’s room.

Indeed.

As someone who’s owned all three, it’s because the rear end is very polarizing and it doesn’t look like the 2nd/3rd/5th. It actually makes a better car to build than a 5th because it weighs about 200 pounds less. Some of the JDM ones are very light (2500 or so pounds), with no sunroof, no airbags, and lighter bumper supports. Of course, that comes at the expense of almost certainly dying in a crash.

The exterior design certain isn’t my favorite but it’s probably The 3rd coolest interior Honda has made, first and second place going to the original NSX and the S2000.

I always liked the way these look. That ca,r in that color, is actually the car I think of when it comes to a Prelude.

Years ago a shitty 4th gen Prelude went full Mustang in a snowy parking lot and hit my car in the side. I can never forgive them for this.

Everyone fussed over preludes? I thought they were fairly unloved.
I used to own a 1st gen AMA

In my neck of the woods, being @5 years old, they were all given the F&F treatment and quickley tossed.

I’ve seen a few like that but as a whole they’ve fared much better than other Japanese cars of the era.

I actually like those a lot, though not so much in that red for some reason. Agree they’re extremely rare these days. One does still see Civics, even stock, of that vintage. Also it’s amazing how common early 90’s Camrys still are, here in Chicago.

I get it.

It is indeed because they’re a bit ugly.
Shame. The next gen was a more reserved design. Which meant doing away with the fantastic dashboard this gen had.

See if anything I think the 4th gen was even more conservative than the 5th. The 5th looks like an out-and-out sportscar. The 4th looks like a slightly more sporty Accord.

I think the plain rectangle headlights on the 5th gen are plainer, and the interior sure is. The 4th gen has that beak thing which is distinctive, but gross. Having that centre painted section on the front and the grilles either side was a bit adventurous.
The 5th has a nice waistline that lowers the visual weight of the car and makes it look sporty. But I wouldn’t call that adventurous, still a pretty conservative element.
Looking at either of them really says a lot about modern car design. If the “beak” of the 4th gen is considered out-there, what does that make every Lexus?
Fuck every Lexus

Fuck every Lexus with a cactus.
